Channel Drains

Channel Drains for Effective Hardscape Drainage

Channel drains collect surface water across patios, walkways, driveways, and other paved areas, then direct it away before it can pool or reach the home. Installed along the low point of a hardscape, these linear drains provide dependable protection during Florida’s heavy rainfall while keeping outdoor spaces safer and more usable.

Professional Channel Drain Installation

Standing water on hardscape can create slippery surfaces, stain pavers, and push moisture toward walls, doors, or the foundation. A properly placed channel drain intercepts runoff along the full width of the problem area and carries it into connected drainage piping for controlled discharge away from the property.

Common Applications

Pool Decks

When a pool deck slopes toward the house, rainwater and splash-out can travel directly to the structure. A channel drain installed across the flow path captures that water before it reaches the home and routes it to a safer discharge point.

In Front of Doors

Low thresholds and areas that pitch toward an entry can allow water to collect against the door or enter the interior. A channel drain creates a protective line in front of the opening, collecting runoff before it reaches the threshold.

Patios and Walkways

Channel drains help manage water on patios, walkways, and other paved spaces where runoff naturally concentrates. By removing water along the low edge, they reduce puddling and help keep high-traffic areas more comfortable and secure.

Driveways and Courtyards

Across wide paved areas, a linear drain can collect water more effectively than a single point drain. Correct placement helps prevent runoff from moving toward the garage, house, or neighboring hardscape.

Professional Channel Drain Installation

An effective system depends on more than the drain itself. CDS Landscaping evaluates the direction of the slope, the amount of water reaching the area, the best drain width, and where the collected water can be discharged. The goal is a clean installation that works with the surrounding hardscape and protects the property.

Choose a 3- to 4-Inch Channel

For most residential hardscape applications, 3- to 4-inch channel drains are preferred. The wider opening captures more surface water, providing better performance during strong storms and sudden downpours.

Place the Drain at the Low Point

A channel drain must cross the path water naturally follows. We identify the low edge of the surface and position the drain to intercept runoff before it reaches a doorway, wall, pool enclosure, or other vulnerable area.

Connect the End to Drainage Piping

The ends of the channel can connect to underground piping so collected water does not simply gather beside the drain. The piping carries runoff away to an appropriate outlet or drainage area based on site conditions.

Build for Reliable Flow

Proper grading, secure connections, and a stable installation help the system continue moving water efficiently. We integrate the drain with the surrounding surface so water enters the channel instead of bypassing it.
